Call for Papers for Panel Sponsored by the Digital Classics Association

“Collaboration in a Digital World: Expanding the Boundaries of Classical Studies”

Organized by Neil Coffee, University at Buffalo, SUNY

In recent years, digital innovation has placed collaboration at the center of classical studies. Nevertheless, a significant challenge remains: many humanists and their institutions view collaborative research as secondary to individual scholarship. For digital scholars, however, collaboration is not only advantageous but essential. Digital tools and methodologies create opportunities for collective research approaches that yield results otherwise unattainable through solitary effort, advancing classical studies in novel directions.

The aim of this panel is to engage directly with the collaborative aspect of digital classics by highlighting projects that illustrate the potential of collective work. We invite abstracts for 20-minute presentations from scholars whose digital projects exemplify collaborative models in classical studies. We particularly welcome proposals that reflect on innovative project designs, address the unique challenges of collaboration, and consider how digital partnerships are reshaping research in the field.

Please submit abstracts following the SCS Guidelines for Authors of Abstracts by email to Neil Coffee, University at Buffalo SUNY, at digitalclassicsassociation@gmail.com by March 3, 2025. Submissions should be anonymized for blind review.
