The SCS maintains a database of more than 400 departments or programs where classics is taught in some form at the postsecondary level. Over 250 of those programs provided complete or partial responses to this census that solicited information about each department’s students, faculty, and course offerings during the 2013-2014 academic year. Below are links to three tables that show responses to the questions in the census. To make it easier to present the data, each table provides responses to a different kind of question.

  • The Numerical table shows responses to questions seeking a specific figure, such as the number of students in a course or the number of majors in a given year.
  • The Single table shows responses to questions that permitted only one response out of a number of possible responses.
  • The Multiple table shows responses to questions that permitted more than one response out of a number of possible responses.

On the three tables, just above and to the left of each question from the census, the boldface alpha-numeric code (A4, B15, etc.) corresponds to the number of that question in the census instrument. The Professional Matters Division will now embark on an analysis of these data. Please look for follow-up reports. Members interested in participating in the analysis of the data are invited to contact John Miller, the SCS Vice President for Professional Matters.
