The Department of Classical Studies at Boston College invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor specializing in Greek literature, especially poetry. Ph.D. is required by the time of appointment (July 1, 2016); teaching experience is a plus.

Candidates must be able to teach both Greek and Latin language and literature from the elementary to the advanced level (the latter courses include both undergraduate and M.A. students). The normal teaching load is five courses per year, which will usually include Classical Mythology. We are especially interested in candidates who will develop exciting language and civilization courses that can benefit our majors and attract students outside the department.

As a small and collegial department within a nationally-ranked university, we are dedicated to fostering an environment in which students experience an outstanding liberal arts education and interact with faculty who are actively engaged in scholarly research. The ideal candidate will show promise of both excellent undergraduate teaching and a strong research trajectory.

Applications should include (1) a cover letter, describing both your research interests and at least one course in the area of ancient civilization that you have taught or hope to teach, (2) a curriculum vitae, (3) three letters of recommendation, and (4) a brief writing sample. Applications should be submitted on-line at http://apply.interfolio.com/30797. Inquiries and correspondence may be addressed to Kendra Eshleman, Chair, Department of Classical Studies, 140 Commonweath Ave., Chestnut Hill, MA 02467, eshleman@bc.edu. All materials must be received by November 1, 2015. Interviews will be conducted at the annual meeting of the Society for Classical Studies in San Francisco, January 6-9, 2016. Boston College is an Affirmative Action, Equal Opportunity employer.
