Carleton College invites applications for a one-year position in the Department of Classics beginning September 1, 2016. We are seeking an entry-level teacher/scholar with broad interests in all aspects of Classical antiquity. Ph.D. or its imminent completion is required. Responsibilities include teaching Latin and Greek at all levels, as well as courses in translation. Area of specialization is open, but we are particularly interested in candidates with teaching interests in any one of the following: ancient drama, myth, or a similarly broad literary/cultural area.

This will be a full year appointment, eligible for benefits. The teaching load is expected to be 5 courses spread over Carleton's 3 teaching terms, with probably 3-4 of the courses in intro-advanced language and 1-2 “civ” courses in translation.

To apply, please visit the Carleton College Web site at jobs.carleton.edu to complete the online application, including a letter of application addressing relevant teaching experience and research interests, c.v., brief proposals (one or two paragraphs) for an advanced language course and an in-translation course you would like to teach, graduate transcript (need not be official), and three letters of reference by February 19, 2016.

If you have questions, please contact Professor Chico Zimmerman (czimmerm@carleton.edu). Applications will be reviewed with the intention of interviewing candidates via Skype during the second week of March. The cover letter should speak to the candidate’s interest in teaching at a highly selective liberal arts college with a diverse student body.
