The Department of Greek and Roman Classics at Temple University invites applications from candidates for a non-tenure-track, full-time position (Assistant Professor of Instruction) starting for the academic year 2017-18. This position has the possibility of renewal, pending continued funding and satisfactory performance.

The department is seeking a dynamic and innovative teacher who can contribute to the instruction of Latin and Greek, as well as to the department’s courses in classical civilization, both in the major and in Temple’s General Education curriculum. Evidence of successful teaching experience is essential. The teaching load for this position in 2017-18 will be 3-4. In the fall: two sections of first-year Latin and Classical Mythology. In the spring (provisionally): intermediate Greek, a General Education course in the department (Race in the Ancient Mediterranean or Ancient War Games: Sport and Spectacle in Classical Antiquity), and two sections of Temple’s core humanities program Intellectual Heritage. The number of courses for subsequent terms will depend on the specific assignments. While no formal service is expected for this position, the appointee will be expected to participate in the full range of departmental activities.

Applicants with the doctorate are preferred, but ABDs with strong teaching records will be considered as well. Due to time constraints, candidates must already be authorized to work in the USA.

Candidates should send ONLY a cover letter, by e-mail, with curriculum vitae (as attachments, in PDF format, with the files labeled with the candidate’s last name before any other designations), indicating ability and experience for teaching the courses specified above, as well as a statement of approach or approaches to language pedagogy.

Address applications to Professor Robin Mitchell-Boyask, robin@temple.edu. Review of applications will begin immediately, and will continue until the position is filled. Candidates should try to contact the department as soon as possible.

Questions and informal inquiries are welcome, and can be addressed to Professor Mitchell-Boyask, (robin@temple.edu). Information on Classics and Intellectual Heritage at Temple can also be obtained from our websites, www.cla.temple.edu/classics, www.cla.temple.edu/ih.
