The Department of Classics at Columbia University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professorship in Latin to begin July 1, 2018. The field of specialization is open, but we aim to complement the expertise of the current faculty. Particular areas of interest include, but are not limited to, science, religion, and magic; law; linguistics; material culture; and late antiquity. Applicants should have demonstrated excellence in research and teaching and should have an interest in participating in all aspects of the Department's pedagogical program, including language courses at all levels, courses in translation and classical civilization, graduate courses, and Columbia's Core Curriculum. Review of applications will begin November 15, 2017 and continue until the position is filled. Applicants should submit a letter of application that explains their interest in and qualifications for the position, a curriculum vitae, a list of references, and a scholarly writing sample of no more than 20 pages at RAPS (Recruitment for Academic Personnel System).
