The San Antonio Museum of Art and Trinity University invite applications for a post-doc fellowship in the history of art and material culture, awarded for the two-year period beginning August 2018. The fellowship offers a stipend of $46,000/year. While in residence in San Antonio, the post-doc Fellow will hold department affiliation and joint appointment with Trinity University and the San Antonio Museum of Art, teach one course per semester, and have the opportunity for scholarly research, exhibition, and publication in one of the San Antonio Museum of Art’s collecting areas. Areas of specialization can include Egyptian Art (Predynastic to Late Antique), Greek Art, Roman Art, Ancient Near Eastern Art, Islamic Art, Pre-Columbian Art, Korean Art, Vietnamese Art, Japanese Art, Himalayan and Indian Art, Oceanic and Aboriginal Art, and American and Latin American Art. Preference will be given to scholars from underrepresented groups in the humanities in museums and academia.
Applicant’s scholarship should focus on one of the areas listed above, with particular emphasis on some aspect of material culture, and a keen interest in object-based research, teaching, and experiential learning.
The fellow will be asked to teach one course per semester, including: (1) a lower-division or First Year Experience course (fall), (2) an experiential course based at the museum that uses the collection to frame a research project or to curate an exhibition with which undergraduate students will be involved as collaborators (spring). We are particularly interested in ideas for courses that would attract minority and first generation students (25% of Trinity’s students are first-generation or Pell Grant eligible).
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants for the Postdoctoral Fellowship for the 2018-2020 academic years must have received the Ph.D. degree after 2014. Applicants who do not have the Ph.D. in hand at the time of the application must include a letter from the committee chair or department stating that the Ph.D. degree will be conferred before the term of the fellowship begins.
