The University of Chicago invites applications for a position as Lecturer, with full-time benefits, expected to begin September 1, 2018 or as soon as possible thereafter for an initial one-year term, with the possibility of renewal. We seek candidates committed to a career in language teaching and learning and to keeping up with best practices in pedagogy. The successful candidate will teach a minimum of six courses per year in elementary and intermediate Latin and Ancient Greek, upper-level grammar review, and/or elementary prose composition. In addition, the Lecturer will be appointed as Language Program Director (LPD). Duties of the LPD include: reviewing, supervising, and scheduling the graduate student language pedagogy program; designing and teaching pedagogy workshops; collaborating with faculty and graduate students in course design; and assessment, including placement exams.
Required qualifications: PhD in Classics or a related field by the start date of the appointment; language teaching experience in a rigorous language program; and a demonstrated engagement with pedagogy and course development. Preferred qualifications: supervisory experience in an established language program; familiarity with both traditional and innovative approaches to language learning.
