The Department of Classical Studies serves the educational interests of undergraduate and masters level students, the local and statewide community, and the health of the national discipline, by preserving, transmitting and interpreting the achievements of the Classical World, and by adhering to the best practices of our discipline. Classical Studies provides: 1) A solid foundation in the Classical tradition for all university students; 2) An excellent undergraduate major both for students interested in further work in Classical Studies and for those seeking a first or second major based strongly in the liberal arts; 3) The strongest possible preparation and continuing education opportunities for teachers of Latin at the secondary level; 4) An understanding of and an appreciation for Classical Studies and the Classical foundations of the Western tradition through individual research and co-curricular programs; 5) Stimulated and supporting productive and high quality research while nurturing a sense of intellectual community among faculty of the Department.

Classical Studies invites applications for a 1-year 3/4 time position at the rank of Lecturer to begin in August 2014. The teaching load is 3 courses per semester. Courses will include Latin at the introductory and/or intermediate level as well as mythology and other classical civilization courses including, possibly, an introductory course in Roman Archaeology.

Minimum qualifications are a Masters Degree in Classics or related discipline and candidates should be able to demonstrate excellence in teaching. Preferred qualifications are a Ph.D. in Classics or a related discipline.
