The Classics Department at the University of Oregon invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position in Classical Archaeology at the rank of Assistant Professor, to begin September 16, 2015. Ph.D. in Classical Archaeology or related discipline is required by the time of appointment and candidates must demonstrate a strong record of or potential for exceptional scholarship and teaching.
Primary teaching responsibilities consist of five classes per year (2-2-1) and will include courses in Greek and/or Roman archaeology and material culture as well as Greek and/or Latin language and classics-in-translation at the undergraduate and graduate levels. We welcome applicants who are actively engaged in fieldwork supported by external funding or who have the potential to bring sponsored research to the University of Oregon. The successful candidate is expected to take an active role in the local chapter of the AIA. Initial interviews will be conducted at the joint AIA-APA meeting in January 2015.
Located 110 miles south of Portland, the University of Oregon has an enrollment of over 20,000. The Eugene metro area (pop. 215,000) is in a region noted for its dynamic quality of life and progressive cultural environment. We are about an hour’s drive from the Pacific coast and the Cascade mountains. The University is an AAU research institution and a member of the Pac-12 conference.
