The Vassar College Department of Greek and Roman Studies invites applications for the Blegen Research Fellowship in 2015-16. Vassar is strongly committed to fostering a community that reflects the values of a liberal arts education and to promoting an environment of equality, inclusion and respect for difference. Vassar College is an affirmative action, equal opportunity employer, and applications from members of historically underrepresented groups are especially encouraged. The Fellowship is intended for a scholar who needs a year of reduced teaching responsibility to develop or bring to fruition a major research project. The Fellowship is tenable for one year. Area of specialty is open though we are especially interested in scholars working on aspects of the ancient world not normally covered by our regular course offerings. All candidates must have the PhD in hand at the time of application and at least one year of full-time teaching experience.

In 2015-16 the Fellow will teach two courses. One is a seminar at the advanced level, in translation, related to the Fellow's research interests. The other will be a course from our regular offerings in Greek and Latin. The seminar should be of interest to qualified members of the general student population, not just majors in Greek and Roman Studies. Preference is given to candidates who can offer a course on subjects not normally taught in our curriculum and which has the potential for being cross-listed with other departments or multidisciplinary programs. The Fellowship carries a salary appropriate to the Fellow's experience, plus benefits, and includes the use, without cost, of a furnished three-bedroom apartment (including utilities).

To receive full consideration, applications should be received by January 15, 2015. Candidates are asked to submit a curriculum vitae; a statement describing the content and current status of your proposed research project; two suggestions for the seminar in English translation mentioned above (include titles and brief course descriptions); a representative sample of work; and the names, addresses, and telephone numbers of two referees, whom you should ask to send supporting letters, before the deadline, according to the instructions provided on the application site.
