The Department of Classical Languages at Sewanee: The University of the South invites applications for a three-year term appointment as visiting assistant professor in Classical Archaeology and Classical Languages to start in August 2015.

The successful candidate will have completed a Ph.D. in Classical Archaeology, Classics, or Anthropology with an emphasis on ancient material culture, or related fields. The position requires demonstrated teaching ability and a strong commitment to innovative, effective teaching in the liberal arts tradition. The teaching load is 3/3, and will include courses in archaeology, introductory and intermediate Latin and/or ancient Greek, courses in material culture, and possibly other Classics courses in translation.

The University of the South comprises a highly-regarded College of Arts and Sciences and a distinguished School of Theology. It is an institution of the Episcopal Church that welcomes individuals of all backgrounds. It is located on a striking, 13,000-acre campus on Tennessee’s Cumberland Plateau within driving distance of Nashville and Chattanooga.
