The Classics Department at Bowdoin College invites applications for a one-year position at the rank of Visiting Assistant Professor beginning July 2016 with the possibility of a renewal for a second year. We seek candidates with expertise in ancient Mediterranean archaeology who could also teach courses in Greek and Latin languages and literatures. Teaching responsibilities include four courses annually, one of which will be a course in Roman archaeology at the introductory level; the remaining three will include two archaeology courses at more advanced levels in subjects relating to the successful applicant's area of expertise and one course in Greek or Latin. The Classics faculty frequently make use of the collections and exhibitions in the Bowdoin College Museum of Art, whose encyclopedic holdings include examples of Ancient art in a variety of media. Advanced ABDs or recent Ph.D.s are welcome to apply.
