Instructor of Classics

Birmingham-Southern College invites applications for an instructor in Classics to begin Fall 2017. Applicants must have an earned doctoral degree or be ABD in Classics or Latin, or a closely related field. Teaching load is three courses per semester plus one January Exploration term course and must include offerings in Latin language and Greek and Roman civilization. The successful candidate will understand and uphold the academic rigor of the Classics minor at BSC and will have a strong commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching and to the liberal arts. The College seeks applicants who show a genuine passion for teaching and proven success in the classroom.

Candidates whose teaching and/or research interests focus on the relation of traditionally understudied populations, races, religions, or sexualities to the ancient Mediterranean world are especially encouraged to apply, as are those able to contribute to the College’s interdisciplinary programs (Gender and Women’s Studies, Human Rights and Social Conflict, and Urban and Environmental Studies) or who have experience in the digital humanities.
