Assistant Professor of Classics

The Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures at Valparaiso University invites applications for a tenure-track (Instructor/Assistant Professor) position beginning August 2017. Preferred qualifications: ability to teach all levels of undergraduate Greek and Latin language, literature, and culture as well as Introduction to Classical Archaeology. Ability and willingness to teach writing-intensive courses also preferred. Both Hellenists and Latinists will be considered. Candidates should be Ph.D./ABD, committed to excellent teaching and show promise for scholarly activity.

Valparaiso is a selective private university 50 miles from Chicago. Candidates should be interested in working at a university engaged in issues in Christian higher education in the Lutheran tradition. Duties for this full-time position include a combination of teaching, continued scholarly activity, ongoing professional development, and service to the Department and University. Valpo's workload model allows for flexibility in how these components are balanced for each faculty member.
