Position Summary:

Summary: Works for the Classics department to assist in language teaching though instruction, tutoring and related cultural activities. Coordinated through Residential Life, the Classical Languages and Cultural Activities Coordinator lives on campus and directs/coordinates cultural programming.

Essential Duties:
With the Faculty Advisor’s oversight, undertakes the following:
• Teaching: Adjunct Latin and Greek – 4-6 hours/week in each language, total 8-12 hours/week—ranging from lower intermediate to advanced level.
• Cultural Programming: The CLCAC is in charge of the cultural programming for the Classics Department. S/he will live on campus near students. S/he will arrange cultural activities (i.e. dinner, movies, language “tables” at meals, campus wide cultural activities involving literature, drama or dance) open to the larger campus community and targeting current language students.

With the Residential Life Coordinator’s oversight, undertakes an appropriate share of the following:
• As appropriate, attend Residential Life training sessions at the beginning of each semester and sessions during the semester.
• Maintain appropriate documentation and records for the Cultural Coordinator position.
• Organize, plan, and execute cultural programs for Greek and Latin students and the campus community. Programs may include films, drama (both local productions and visiting performers) literature and dance, food events and field trips.
• Collaborate with the Director of Study Abroad and Residential Life Coordinator to create programs to prepare students for experiences abroad and reconnect students returning from abroad.
• Meet as appropriate with the Residential Life Coordinator and faculty advisor/mentor.
• Must support and contribute to the goal of achieving greater diversity at Colorado College and work effectively with the many constituencies on campus.
• Assist in promoting a culture of safety and environmental protection by working in a safe manner; immediately reporting unsafe situations and accidents; following College procedures; requesting and using appropriate protective equipment; and participating in appropriate safety training.
• Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.

Preferred Qualifications:
Some experience teaching Latin and/or Greek at College/University level is preferable.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor of Arts; satisfactory knowledge of Latin and ancient Greek

Skills:
• Knowledge of teaching methodologies and classroom strategies
• Strong interpersonal skills necessary.
• Must be a independent, adaptable, flexible, able to work with various constituencies, and enthusiastic about classical culture
• Excellent communication and organizational skills are essential.
