Concordia College (Moorhead, MN) invites applications for a one-year, sabbatical replacement for the 2017-18 academic year in the Department of Classical Studies. The position is 5/6 time, with benefits, at the rank of Visiting Assistant Professor or Instructor, depending on degree status.

The primary teaching responsibilities will be Elementary Latin I (using Wheelock) and Classical Literature in Translation in the fall, Elementary Latin II and Classical Mythology in the spring. The candidate will also be responsible for smaller teaching duties: directing a guided independent study course on scientific terminology (each semester), and teaching Elementary Greek II (using Athenaze) to a group of approximately three students in the fall.

Applicants should hold a PhD in Classics; ABDs are also invited to apply. Submit application materials online at http://hr.cord.edu/postings/3450. These include a cover letter highlighting relevant teaching experience and expertise, a curriculum vitae, evidence of effectiveness in teaching, and the contact information for three references. In or appended to your cover letter, please provide a brief description (one or two paragraphs should suffice) of how you would teach Classical Literature in Translation and Classical Mythology. The candidate has great leeway in this regard. Review of applications will begin May 19, 2017 , and will continue until the position is filled. If you have any questions, please contact Heather Waddell (hwaddell@cord.edu), Chair, Department of Classical Studies.

The successful applicant will demonstrate experience and excellence in teaching. We are especially interested in applicants with a record of successful teaching and mentoring of students from all backgrounds (including first-generation college students, low-income students, members of racial, ethnic and religious minorities, and members of the LGBTQ community).
