Position Details: Gustavus Adolphus College invites applications for a full-time leave-replacement position of Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of Classics to begin September 1, 2018. The department anticipates a continued vacancy, and the successful candidate may be considered for continuation into two additional years, contingent upon favorable review and the continuing needs of the College.

Major/Essential Functions: The annual teaching assignment will be five or six courses (5/7 or 6/7 appointment). Primary teaching responsibilities will include all levels of Latin and/or Greek, as well as courses in classical studies (e.g., myth, ancient history and culture, or art and archaeology courses). Please indicate in your application letter which areas you are qualified and interested in teaching.

Required Qualifications: We seek candidates who have an earned doctorate by August 1, 2018, but those who are ABD will also be considered. All specializations will be considered. Candidates must have demonstrated effectiveness in teaching. A commitment to undergraduate teaching and advising is essential.

Preferred Qualifications: We prefer candidates who have experience teaching at the undergraduate level. The ability to support students from diverse backgrounds and experience with a variety of teaching strategies and learning styles will be an important characteristic of the successful candidate.
