Job Description:

Fairfield University's Honors Program and its Classical Studies Program seek candidates for a one-year renewable Visiting Assistant Professorship. The position requires teaching four courses each semester, two in the Honors Program and two in Latin language and/or ancient literature in translation. The successful candidate will have completed the PhD and have a demonstrated track-record of success in interdisciplinary scholarship; interdisciplinary collaborative research projects; and/or interdisciplinary team-teaching. Teaching responsibilities in the Honors Program will include team-teaching in the interdisciplinary sequence of courses on “Enduring Questions” and “Emerging Questions,” and teaching solo seminars on topics relevant to the candidate’s research interests. Teaching responsibilities in Classical Studies will include introductory Latin classes and intermediate Latin readings in a Roman author of the candidate's choice, and a class on an ancient author of the candidate’s choice read in English translation.

Requirements:

Applicants are expected to have a PhD. The area of specialty is open, but preference will be given to candidates with interdisciplinary research and teaching interests. Applicants should be prepared to teach day and evening courses at the undergraduate. The teaching load is 4 courses each semester.
