The School of Languages and Cultures at Purdue University welcomes applications for the position of Clinical Assistant Professor of Classics at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana for the fall 2019 semester. Classics at Purdue is housed in the School of Languages and Cultures in the College of Liberal Arts. Classics offerings at Purdue include language courses in Greek and Latin, and culture and history courses in topics such as classical world civilizations, classical literature, mythology, ancient medicine, and religion in ancient Greece and Rome.

Qualifications: PhD in Classical Studies or related field; relevant experience; familiarity with the latest scholarship in the field; and evidence of excellent teaching.

Salary: competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications.

The successful candidate will normally teach four courses per semester, which will include courses in Classics as well as courses that are part of the College of Liberal Arts’ Integrated Cornerstone first-year curriculum. There will be opportunities for program-related special assignments, such as community outreach activities, accompanied by a reduced teaching load.

The term of the initial contract is three years and is renewable. While this position is not on the tenure track, it is a full-time faculty position with benefits and a promotion ladder consisting of Clinical Associate Professor and Clinical Full Professor.
