DEPARTMENT OF CLASSICS:
LECTURER PSOE

The Department of Classics in the School of Humanities at the University of California, Irvine invites applications for a Lecturer with Potential Security of Employment (LPSOE) position.

Requirements: Candidates must have a PhD in Classics or a closely related field by the start of the appointment. They must demonstrate expertise in teaching Ancient Greek and Latin, large lecture courses in Mythology, Greek Civilization and Roman Civilization, as well as more specialized upper-division courses on aspects of antiquity and its reception. At least 2 years of teaching experience in higher education is preferred.

The successful candidate will be appointed at the rank of Lecturer with Potential Security of Employment (LPSOE), with teaching duties starting in the fall of 2019. The LPSOE is a full-time faculty position designed for individuals who wish to focus their careers on teaching, professional and educational activities, and University and public service. Like Assistant Professors, LPSOE are evaluated for reappointment and merit salary increases every two years and are evaluated within eight years (or fewer) for promotion to Lecturer with Security of Employment (LSOE), which has the permanence of a tenured position. Promotion from LPSOE to Lecturer with Security of Employment (LSOE; the equivalent of tenure) requires, in addition to excellent teaching and service, that the candidate make outstanding and recognized contributions to the development of their discipline and/or of pedagogy. As a member of the University of California Academic Senate, the successful candidate will be eligible for UCI’s attractive faculty housing, medical, and retirement programs. LPSOEs are expected to continue to develop as professionals in their respective fields by attending relevant professional meetings, reviewing programs, and collaborating with scholars outside the University.

Please apply online at https://recruit.ap.uci.edu/JPF05334 and submit a letter of application, a curriculum vitae, teaching statement, sample course syllabi for the types of courses specified above, teaching evaluations, and at least two letters of reference.
