CU Boulder will be accepting applications for the Chancellor’s Postdoctoral Fellowship for Diversity Program. To help achieve our goal of increased faculty diversity, CU Boulder has joined a collaborative, multi-institutional initiative, University Partnerships for Faculty Diversity. The University seeks applicants whose creative work/research, teaching and service will contribute to diversity, inclusion and equal opportunity in higher education. The program is particularly interested in scholars with the potential to bring to their academic careers the critical perspective that comes from their non-traditional educational background or understanding of the experiences of groups historically underrepresented in higher education. CU Boulder views these postdoctoral fellowships as providing an exceptional opportunity to recruit potential new faculty to the university by offering the possibility of either a postdoc alone or a combined postdoc and tenure-track faculty appointment.
Applications are welcome in all academic fields. Applicants should have completed their doctorate by July 1, 2020, and should be preparing for a career in university teaching and research. Applicants who are not U.S. citizens or permanent residents when the application is due will not be considered. Applicants must obtain the sponsorship of a CU Boulder faculty member, preferably tenured, who is willing to serve as their primary mentor. Applications will be examined by faculty reviewers at the departmental level and evaluated according to their potential for faculty careers that will contribute to diversity and equal opportunity through teaching, research and service. The reviewers also may consider both the faculty mentor’s potential to work productively with the candidate and the candidate’s commitment to equity and diversity in higher education.
Application Materials Required:
CV, research proposal, PhD abstract, education background statement, and a writing sample; three letters of support (from the applicant’s thesis advisor, CU Boulder faculty mentor, and CU Boulder department chair) will be solicited by the online application system after submission of the other materials. Applicants must approach potential CU Boulder faculty mentors prior to submitting their applications at the University Partnerships for Faculty Diversity website (https://ppfp.ucop.edu/).
This highly competitive fellowship will be awarded to two applicants in the 2019-2020 application cycle. Each award is for a 12-month period and provides fellows a salary of $50-60,000, which may be supplemented with departmental or unit funds, and additional funds for professional development. Additionally, the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs will provide professional development support to awardees and establish a cohort of past CU Boulder and partner awardees who have gone on to join the CU Boulder faculty.
The Chancellor’s Postdoctoral Fellowship for Diversity Program is designed to provide new scholars with time to focus on research and publishing activities that will enhance their prospects for appointment as a tenure-track faculty member. The terms of the fellowships do not allow teaching without prior approval from the faculty mentor and the program director. Teaching will be approved only if the opportunity appears to serve the fellow’s career development and only if it occurs at CU Boulder.
