Assistant Professor - Classics
The Department of Classics at the University of Washington has been authorized to make a full-time, tenure-track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor in Classics. Candidates will be expected to teach at the undergraduate and graduate level and engage in research that could include the following: Greek drama, race and ethnicity in the ancient Mediterranean world, and digital humanities. The successful applicant will mentor students and teach a wide variety of courses at all levels of our undergraduate and graduate programs, both in Greek and Latin and in translation. As an increasingly diverse public institution, the University of Washington seeks candidates who will work effectively with diverse student and community populations. The appointment begins 16 September 2020 and is a full-time (100% FTE) position with a 9-month service period. UW faculty engage in teaching, research, and service. A typical teaching load consists of five courses over three quarters.
Applicants should have a Ph.D. (or foreign equivalent) in Classics, or a related field, in hand at the time of appointment and must demonstrate experience in using historical, theoretical, and humanistic approaches in research and/or teaching.
