Position Details: Gustavus Adolphus College invites applications for a full-time ONE-year position of Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of Greek, Latin, and Classical Studies to begin September 1, 2020.

The Department of Greek, Latin, and Classical Studies has been nationally recognized as one of the top liberal arts college classics departments. Through its diverse curriculum, the department supports the college’s mission, enabling students to come to understand themselves and their environment within a historical framework, perceive complexity, think critically, and develop an appreciation for the liberal arts and the intrinsic value of learning. Major/Essential Functions: The annual teaching assignment will be five or six courses (pending administrative approval), one of which may be a one-month January Term course. Primary teaching responsibilities will include courses in classical studies and all levels of Latin and/or Greek.
Minimum Qualifications:

We seek candidates with an earned PhD (all specializations considered), but will consider candidates who have achieved ABD status and who will complete their degree by September 1, 2020

Prior experience teaching at the undergraduate level;

A commitment to undergraduate teaching; and
-
Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds and a demonstrated commitment to pedagogical methods that enable students across racial, ethnic, and socio-economic groups to reach their maximum potential.
Preferred Qualifications:

Demonstrated effectiveness in teaching ancient Greek and Latin
