The Department of Classics invites applications for a tenure-track (assistant professor) or tenured (associate or full professor) position in the history of Ancient Greece and Rome. This is an open search and part of a cluster hire initiative around race, diversity, and identity, with a focus on such specializations as race in antiquity (e.g., Greece and Rome in the Mediterranean world); ancient slavery in Greece and Rome; migration patterns (e.g., Greek immigrants in southern Italy and Sicily; Rome and Egypt); the impact of diverse cultures in the Mediterranean world on history of science and medicine (e.g., pandemics in classical antiquity; Hippocrates, Galen, et al.).

The successful candidate should have a strong commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching at a private, multicultural institution; and this commitment should be accompanied by solid scholarly credentials. The present department teaches or cosponsors courses in Classical art history, ancient history of science and medicine, gender studies, religious studies, anthropology, among others. Candidates should have an interest in and ability to interact with disciplines beyond Classics.
