The Department of Languages, Cultures and Religions at Missouri State University is accepting applications for a nine-month Instructor of Classics beginning August 2025 to teach courses in Greek and Latin, Classical Mythology, Scientific and Medical Terminology, and elective courses for the Classical Humanities Minor and the Classical Languages and Medical Humanities certificates. It will have a 4-4 teaching load, with the possibility of teaching a Gen. Ed course in summer terms. Appropriate levels of committee service, student advising, and club advising are also expected. The Instructor may participate in research. Contingent upon satisfactory performance reviews, educational needs and continued funding, the Instructor appointment is renewable annually without constraint of term limits. Approval for this position has been granted by administration, however, all hires are subject to final budgetary and board approvals
An earned terminal degree or the degree required for teaching in the Classics is required. Potential or demonstrated teaching ability is required. A willingness to serve the academic unit, college, and the University is required. The ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds is required. Review of applications will begin October 4, 2024 and continue until finalists are identified. Employment will require a criminal background check at University Expense.
