The Department of Classics at Florida State University invites applications for a non tenure-track but renewable appointment in the area of Classical Civilizations, with a focus on undergraduate teaching and pedagogy, to begin in August 2025. The position will be a full-time specialized Teaching Faculty member, with full benefits. We are seeking a talented and engaging teacher who will play a major role in teaching the Department’s General Education and other undergraduate offerings, especially mythology, Mediterranean cultures, and Classics in Translation; curricular developments; and assisting with training and supervising the graduate instructors of record teaching those courses.
Duties include a teaching load of 4 courses in each fall and spring term, and 2 in summer, with course reductions possible for taking on supervisory duties. There are opportunities to teach in the various specialized programs offered by the University, including the Honors Program.
Qualifications
Academic doctorate or highest level terminal degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate field of specialization or equivalent qualifications based on professional experience and otherwise qualified to perform assigned duties, with a demonstrated record of achievement in teaching. Experience with language instruction is desirable.
