The Department of Classics of Washington University in St. Louis invites applications for a one-year position at the rank of Visiting Lecturer, for the academic year 2007-2008. Candidates should have the PhD in Classics in hand by the beginning of the Fall 2007 semester. Teaching load: three courses per semester, including culture courses (e.g. Greek Mythology, The Ancient Novel, Greek and Latin Roots in English) as well as courses in Greek and Latin. The Department of Classics at Washington University in St. Louis invites applications for a tenure-track, assistant professorship in Greek History. A specialty in epigraphy or papyrology is of particular interest to us, but those working in all areas of Greek history are encouraged to apply. Teaching duties will include courses in Greek history (Archaic, Classical, and Hellenistic), general Classics courses, language instruction, and supervision of Master's students. The department also contributes to the Text and Tradition program, offering freshman seminars on ancient literary and historical texts. The teaching load is two courses each semester. Applicants should have a Ph.D. (in hand by time of appointment) in Classics, a well-developed research agenda for the future, and experience in the classroom.
