WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY IN ST. LOUIS – ST. LOUIS, MO
The Department of Classics at Washington University in St. Louis invites applications for a tenure-track, assistant professorship. We are seeking a Hellenist with a research focus in Greek literature; an interest in papyrology, linguistics, or religion would also be of interest to us. We are particularly interested in a scholar who would undertake with enthusiasm and creativity the development of our large course in Classical Mythology. Teaching duties will include courses in Greek and Latin at all levels, general Classics courses for students without knowledge of the ancient languages, and instruction and guidance of Master's students. Faculty members also have the opportunity to contribute to the Text and Tradition program, offering freshman seminars on ancient literary or historical texts. The teaching load is two courses each semester.

Applicants should have a Ph.D. in Classics (in hand by time of appointment), a well-developed research agenda for the future, and experience in the classroom. Please submit a letter of application, curriculum vitae, graduate transcript, three letters of recommendation, and a sample of scholarly writing to: Susan Rotroff, Chair, Department of Classics, Campus Box 1050, Washington University, One Brookings Drive, St. Louis MO 63130. Consideration of applicants will begin on November 15, 2007 and continue until the position is filled; we plan to interview candidates at the APA/AIA meetings in Chicago in early January.

Washington University is an affirmative action, equal opportunity employer. Women, minority candidates and persons with disabilities are encouraged to apply.
