** AIMS’ Membership & Outreach Committee is soliciting original fanfiction for publication on the AIMS website in 2022!

Have you long wanted to try your hand at fanfiction but haven’t yet found an excuse? Ever thought you could write a better conclusion for HBO’s Rome? Or considered how Thermae Romae would have played out if Lucius had travelled to Imperial Japan instead of the modern day? Here’s your opportunity!

We welcome:

  • media set in the ancient world, such as Spartacus or Lore Olympus;

  • media engaging with ancient times & themes, such as the Doctor travelling to ancient Greece in Doctor Who or characters engaging with Caesar’s Legion in Fallout New Vegas;

  • fanfiction about non-ancient media that engages with ancient stories; for example, “The Twelve Labours of Buffy.”

Examples of ancient world fanfiction can be found by searching the relevant fandom on https://archiveofourown.org . A recent example of Domina fanfiction by M&O committee member Amanda Potter can be found here: https://archiveofourown.org/works/33248596 .

Submissions should be no more than 1,000 words in length, and suitable for audiences teen and up (per https://www.fictionratings.com/ which describes “teen” as being: “Suitable for teens, 13 years and older, with some violence, minor coarse language, and minor suggestive adult themes.”) Please send your completed story to the AIMS Membership & Outreach Committee <outreach@antiquityinmediastudies.org> anytime between the 2021 AIMS conference (15-18 December) and 1 January 2022 for consideration!
