The Society for Classical Studies is delighted to announce that the TAPA Editor Search Committee has selected Joshua Billings and Irene Peirano Garrison as the new co-editors of TAPA. This is the first time in its history that TAPA will be led by two co-editors. Professors Billings and Peirano Garrison will cover TAPA volumes 152-155 (2022-2025). Volume 153 will include a themed issue, as previously announced, on race, racism and Classics, edited by Professors Sasha-Mae Eccleston and Patrice Rankine.

This year, Joshua Billings and Irene Peirano Garrison will begin work on the editorial transition with current editor Andromache Karanika. At some point in 2021, on a date to be agreed upon by the current and new editors, SCS will announce that Billings and Peirano Garrison will take over receipt of new submissions to TAPA and update all relevant pages on the SCS and JHUP websites.

The new co-editors have issued a statement below on their goals and vision for the journal:

“We are excited to take over from Andromache Karanika as co-editors of TAPA. We are thankful to our predecessor for her exemplary work and service to the profession. As co-editors of the official journal of the Society for Classical Studies, we are committed to continuing to expand the range of topics covered to reflect fully the richness of our discipline. In support of our goal, we aim to: (1) encourage submissions in classical reception studies and methodology in addition to the fields that the journal has historically covered; (2) position TAPA increasingly to explore urgent questions surrounding the place of Classics in the contemporary world; (3) put in place structures for mentoring younger scholars and establish mechanisms to understand and expand the demographics of our contributors.”
