New Orleans Meeting UpdatesPosted Fri, 11/21/2014 - 13:52 in SCS Announcements. We have published an announcement of the seminar (entitled Ancient Literacy Reprised) that will take place on Friday, January 9. As described in the announcement, advance registration is required. In addition, we have updated the Preliminary Program of the meeting. Because a few sessions had to be moved to different time slots, the numbers of many sessions have been changed. |
Report of 2014 Coffin FellowPosted Fri, 11/14/2014 - 16:31 in SCS Announcements. Karen Suzadail, a Latin teacher at Owen J. Roberts High School in Pottstown, PA, and the winner of the 2014 David D. and Rosemary H. Coffin Fellowship, has submitted her report. Ms. Suzadail participated in the Paideia Institute's Caesar in Gaul program and looks forward to sharing what she learned there with her AP Latin students. |
Mellon-Council for European Studies Dissertation and Pre-Dissertation FellowshipsPosted Fri, 11/14/2014 - 16:00 in Awards and Fellowships. The Mellon-CES Dissertation Completion Fellowship is funded by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation and includes a $25,000 stipend, as well as assistance in securing reimbursements or waivers in eligible health insurance and candidacy fees. Mellon-CES Dissertation Completion Fellowships are intended to facilitate the timely completion of the doctoral degree by late-stage graduate students focusing on topics in European Studies in the humanities. Applications are due (along with all supporting materials) on or before January 26, 2015. |
New Mellon Foundation Grant for Digital Latin LibraryPosted Wed, 11/05/2014 - 16:14 in General Announcements, tag1, tag2. The Digital Latin Library—a Linked Open Data resource—has its origins in discussions between the Foundation and the Society for Classical Studies (SCS) in 2011. In 2012 SCS, in collaboration with the Medieval Academy of America and the Renaissance Society of America, requested and received funding from the Foundation for a feasibility study to determine the appropriate scope of the project and to identify institutions where it could be carried out. |

Every year the Women’s Classical Caucus presents three awards, recognizing excellence in the following categories: 1. an article (book chapter, etc.) published in the three calendar years prior to the nominating year given in honor of Barbara McManus: $250 2. an oral paper presented at a major conference in the year prior to 30 June of the nominating year by a pre-Ph.D. scholar (ca. 20 minutes in length as delivered): $150 |
