Humanities Advocacy Day - March 15, 2016

The SCS is a member of the National Humanities Alliance (NHA), a coalition dedicated to the advancement of humanities education, research, preservation, and public programs. Today is Humanities Advocacy Day (#humanitiesadvocacy16) on Capitol Hill, an annual event organized by NHA. Humanities advocates from around the country will be meeting with their Members of Congress to make the case for humanities funding.

HECKMAN RESEARCH STIPENDS

Heckman Stipends, made possible by the A.A. Heckman Endowed Fund, are awarded semi-annually. Up to 10 stipends in amounts up to $2,000 are available each year. Funds may be applied toward travel to and from Collegeville, housing and meals at Saint John’s University, and costs related to duplication of HMML’s microfilm or digital resources. The Stipend may be supplemented by other sources of funding but may not be held simultaneously with another HMML Stipend or Fellowship. Holders of the Stipend must wait at least two years before applying again.

New NEH-Mellon Fellowships for Digital Publication

NEH-Mellon Fellowships for Digital Publication seek to encourage scholars engaged in humanities research that requires digital formats and digital publication. Eligible projects must be conceived as digital because the nature of the research and the topics addressed demand presentation beyond traditional print publication.

Member Access to SCS Web Site

Access to Program Submission System. We are about to open the online system that will permit members to make submissions to the SCS Program Committee. As explained here, you must be an SCS member in good standing for 2016 to use the submission system, and you must use credentials you have established with the Johns Hopkins University Press (JHUP).

Candidates for Election in Summer 2016

The Nominating Committee has recruited this slate of candidates for the election to take place this summer. Members are reminded that it is possible to nominate additional candidates by petition. Nominations of candidates not proposed by the Nominating Committee shall require the signature of twenty members in good standing (2016 dues must be paid) and must be reported to the Executive Director by April 15, 2016.
