The Mellon-CES Dissertation Completion Fellowship is funded by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation and includes a $25,000 stipend, as well as assistance in securing reimbursements or waivers in eligible health insurance and candidacy fees. Mellon-CES Dissertation Completion Fellowships are intended to facilitate the timely completion of the doctoral degree by late-stage graduate students focusing on topics in European Studies in the humanities.

Unauthorized Solicitation of Annual Meeting Hotel Reservations

AIA and SCS members have received telephone calls and e-mails from individuals representing a company variously called “EHS”, "Exhibitors Hotel Services", “Global Housing”, or “Convention Housing Services”. These individuals are operating without the consent of either Society and are fraudulently representing themselves as AIA/SCS, the Hilton Hotel, or a housing service hired to process reservations for the joint annual meeting.

Survey Concerning Non-Tenure-Track Faculty

Earlier this year, President John Marincola invited members to participate in one of four advisory groups. One of these groups – for non-tenure-track faculty – asks that all SCS members respond to a brief survey intended to obtain up-to-date information about the status of non-tenure-track faculty and issues related to the increasing reliance on such positions in Classical Studies and its adjacent fields. Heckman Research Stipends

Heckman Stipends, made possible by the A.A. Heckman Endowed Fund, are awarded semi-annually. Up to 10 stipends in amounts up to $2,000 are available each year. The program is specifically intended to help scholars who have not yet established themselves professionally and whose research cannot progress satisfactorily without consulting materials to be found in the collections of the Hill Museum & Manuscript Library.

SCS Office Closed September 25

Because of travel restrictions connected to Pope Francis' visit to Philadelphia this weekend, the University of Pennsylvania will be closed on Friday, September 25. SCS staff will monitor e-mail during the day on Friday, but we will not be in the office. Depending on how quickly ordinary travel resumes on Monday, September 28, the office may open late on that day.
