The College Board and ETS are currently recruiting college and university faculty interested in scoring Advanced Placement Latin Exams. Applicants must have taught Vergil and/or Caesar at the college level (in intermediate or advanced Latin classes) at some point in the past three years. Launch of New Web Site

Thanks to the extraordinary efforts of Information Architect, Samuel Huskey, and to the programming and web designing skills of Confluence Corporation, we have launched a new web site with a new URL: https://classicalstudies.org/. Both the site and the URL reflect the Society’s new name and its effort to be more useful and accessible to both its members and to a wider audience of people interested in classical antiquity. The site is easier to navigate and will present more opportunities for featuring and discussing new work in classics.

Call for Players in 2016 CAMP Production

The SCS Committee on Ancient and Modern Performance (CAMP) seeks participants for its performance at the SCS/AIA Annual Meeting in San Francisco (January 6-9, 2016).

This year's play is ARISTOPHANES' NERDS: A Birds reformatted from Greek to Geek, adapted by Stanford Classics in Theater (SCIT) and directed by Lizzy Ten-Hove. After a condensed rehearsal schedule, the performance will be held on the meeting's opening night, Wednesday, January 6.

Mellon Foundation Grant to Digital Latin Library

I am pleased to post the press release below from the University of Oklahoma concerning a grant that the University has just received from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation to implement the Digital Latin Library. This project developed from a feasibility study, directed by our Information Architect Samuel Huskey, that was supported by a grant from the Foundation to the SCS.

Interim Placement Service Listings

Until we are able to open the Placement Service for registrations for the 2015-2016 academic year, we are posting notices of openings submitted to us by institutions. You can now read these listings at the web site for last year's Service. Until we are able to open the Service for the current year, which we hope to do next week, we will update this page as frequently as necessary.

Launch of 2015-2016 Placement Site

We apologize for the delay in launching the Placement Service online site for 2015-2016. We now expect it to be available during the week of August 24. In the interim, we want to make sure that SCS members are informed about positions in the field that are currently being advertised. We urge institutions seeking applications for positions in classics or archaeology to send those announcements to scsclassics@sas.upenn.edu. Starting on August 18, we will post those announcements at no charge until the new site is launched.

Henry Starr Fellowship: Jews and the Classical World

The Center for Jewish Studies and the Department of Classics Harvard University invite applications for the 2016-2017 Harry Starr Fellowship in Judaica on the theme “Jews and the Classical World”. Applications are welcome from candidates across the disciplines treating topics related to the intellectual, cultural, social, and political interactions of Jews and non-Jews in the ancient Mediterranean. Projects may engage with any relevant aspect of the classical, Hellenistic, Roman, and late antique worlds as well as the intellectual history of our modern academic disciplines.
