SPECIAL PANEL

Anger in Hellenistic Philosophy and Literature

In honor of Michael McOsker and David Armstrong’s new edition of Philodemus’ On Anger, we are seeking papers for a panel dedicated to anger in Hellenistic philosophy and literature. Topics may include, but are not limited to, Stoic and Epicurean views on anger, anger in Hellenistic poetry, anger as a motivating force in Hellenistic politics, anger in documentary papyri, etc. Papers from any scholarly tradition or using any theoretical approach are welcome. We hope that the chronological bound combined with an open approach to scholarship will produce a holistic treatment of anger while revealing specifically Hellenistic features this part of the Greeks’ emotional life. Questions? Contact organizers Jackie Murray (jackiemurr@gmail.com) or Michael McOsker (mfmcoske@owu.edu).
