The Online Companion to the Worlds of Roman Women has a new web home! The Women’s Classical Caucus (wccaucus.org) now hosts the Companion website, (feminaeromanae.org) through a link from the WCC homepage. As part of its mission “to incorporate feminist and gender-informed perspectives in the study and teaching of all aspects of ancient Mediterranean cultures, particularly the study of women in classical antiquity,” the WCC is delighted to be able to support this worthwhile project.

This user-friendly website is designed to engage Latin readers at all levels with Roman women through a wide variety of un-adapted Latin texts, essays, and images spanning the years from the early Republic to the late Empire. Companion provides a variety of instructional resources, including an annotated bibliography of print and hyperlinked Internet publications, course syllabi, lessons, classroom activities, and selected online resources to support reading and research. Each of the ten thematic “Worlds” presents annotated texts with accompanying essays, images of Roman women, and pertinent ancient artifacts. Each text offers hyperlinked glosses supplying lexical, rhetorical, poetic and syntactic commentary. Contributors of the texts and resources include Latin teachers and students engaged in all levels of education in the United States and abroad.

The Companion’s co-editors, Professors Ann Raia and Judith Sebesta, are very grateful to the WCC for its enthusiastic support for the transfer of this free resource for the study of Roman women.
