SEARCH FOR EDITOR OF THE CLASSICAL OUTLOOK

The American Classical League invites applications for the position of Editor of The Classical Outlook, one of the most widely circulated Classics journals in North America. Back issues of CO are available in JSTOR. The Editor is responsible for the evaluation of materials for publication and for the production and mailing (via mailing service) of four quarterly issues per annum. The position is not salaried, but a travel budget is provided to cover costs of attending the ACL's annual Institute each June, as well as the annual meeting of the Society for Classical Studies. The Editor's home institution (generally a college or university) is expected to provide released time, office space, and/or clerical assistance at a level sufficient to produce high-quality camera-ready copy for printing. ACL can cover other expenses in the form of a grant to the host institution. Dossiers, including a letter of application, curriculum vitae, and evidence of achievement in scholarship, teaching, and professional service, as well as editorial experience, should be e-mailed by 24 November 2021 to the Editor Search Committee of the American Classical League (littles@aclclassics.org). Candidates should support ACL’s Mission and Core Values and its commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Inquiries may be directed to the committee at that same e-mail address. We welcome applications from all interested individuals, especially those from groups underrepresented in classics. Candidates will be interviewed via video conferencing in the first or second week of December. A final decision is expected to be made in late December or early January. The new Editor will be responsible for the publication of the journal commencing with CO 98.1 in early 2023 after shadowing the current editor for two issues (97.3, 97.4) in fall 2022. The successful candidate would benefit from release time starting with fall 2022 to cover the period of shadowing. The term of service is a minimum of 4 years, with renewal possible for up to 4 years more. The Editor of CO currently serves on the Board of Governors of ACL.
