AUGUSTANA COLLEGE - ROCK ISLAND, IL
The Department of Classics is authorized to appoint a tenure-track Assistant Professor (with Ph.D. by 9/01/02) or (if A.B.D.) Instructor. The annual number of courses (quarter calendar) is 2-3-2. The research specialization is open. What matters most is the ability to teach--imaginatively, designedly, engagingly--a broad, flexible, and innovative array of undergraduate courses. These include, at one point or another, all undergraduate levels of Greek and Latin, the main genres of Classical literature in translation, and introductions to Greek and Roman history. A commitment to teaching two courses (of the 2-3-2) in English composition, with experienced support, is integral to the position. We further look for interest in teaching in collaborative structures and in off-campus programs at sites in Europe and around the Mediterranean basin.
