The department of Classical Studies at Indiana University, Bloomington, invites applications to our graduate programs (MA, MAT, PhD). Students admitted with funding receive a minimum stipend of $22,000, supplemented by summer funding and fellowship opportunities to support summer study and travel abroad. Areas of expertise among the faculty include Mycenaean art and archaeology, Homeric epic, Greek drama, Greek historiography, Augustan poetry, Latin epic, Latin historiography, Roman political thought, Roman law, Greco-Roman religion, the art and archaeology of Roman Greece, ancient literary criticism, and Medieval Latin literature. Students also benefit from IU’s robust Program in Ancient Studies, which brings together thirty-five faculty members across sixteen departments to facilitate dialogue and to foster an interdisciplinary approach to the study of the ancient world

Our MAT has a long track record of producing graduates who find teaching jobs and succeed in the classroom. Our MA program is a good place for students to develop their Latin and Greek skills in preparation for the Ph.D. in our program or elsewhere.
