1)The Department of Classical Studies invites applications for a possible one-year position as Visiting Assistant Professor (a research leave replacement) to begin in August, 2002. Areas of expertise and specialty are open. Qualifications for this appointment include a Ph.D. completed by the time the candidate begins employment, and demonstrated excellence in teaching. Candidates should be prepared to teach all undergraduate levels of both Greek and Latin, as well as a broad range of undergraduate Classical Humanities courses. 2) Assistant or Associate Professor of Greek Art and Archaeology. The Department of Art History and Archaeology announces a tenure-track appointment for an Assistant or Associate Professor of Greek art and archaeology beginning August 2002. The field of specialization may be any area of Greek art or archaeology, and the ability to teach surveys of Near Eastern, Egyptian, or Islamic art and archaeology is desirable. Requirements include the PhD in Greek art and archaeology, commitment to excellence in teaching, and record of successful research, publication, and professional activity; field experience is highly desirable. The normal teaching load is two courses per semester at undergraduate and graduate levels plus directing M.A. theses and Ph.D. dissertations. Salary is commensurate with rank and qualifications.

The department offers the BA, MA, and PhD degrees in classical archaeology and art history. This position requires teaching in introductory and intermediate surveys as well as advanced lecture courses and graduate seminars in both programs. Active participation in student advising and service on graduate committees are also expected.

The department includes nine full-time faculty. There are normally about 60 undergraduate majors and 25 graduate students. Graduate degrees in art history and archaeology can be combined with interdisciplinary minors in Ancient Studies, Medieval and Renaissance Studies, Museum Studies, and Women Studies. The University of Missouri-Columbia is the main campus of the state university system and offers a broad range of undergraduate and graduate programs.
