The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga seeks an outstanding senior scholar-teacher for a tenurable appointment to the SunTrust Bank Chair of Excellence in the Humanities, beginning August 1, 1999. The chairholder will be expected to bring to the University a distinguished record of teaching and research or creative activity in the humanities and will hold the Ph.D.or equivalent in one of the following disciplines: the history of art, music, or theatre; literature; religious studies; philosophy; languages; history; the human sciences. Applications from candidates whose intellectual interests cross disciplinary boundaries will be especially welcome. Duties of the chairholder will include teaching one or two courses each semester, sponsoring public programming related to the humanities, and continuing research or creative activity. An operating budget is provided for the Chair.
