Bowdoin College’s Department of Classics invites applications for a one-year replacement position in Classics at the Assistant Professor or Instructor level, for the 2019-20 academic year. PhD preferred, advanced ABD considered. We seek candidates with expertise in ancient Greek or Roman material culture, who are also competent and enthusiastic to teach courses in Greek or Latin language and literature. Teaching responsibilities include teaching two courses each semester. In the Fall semester this will entail an introductory survey of Greek Archaeology, and a first-year seminar on a topic related to the successful applicant’s area of expertise. In the Spring semester this will entail an advanced seminar on a topic related to the successful applicant’s area of expertise, and a course in Greek or Latin language and literature at the intermediate level. Applicants should demonstrate a dedication to teaching excellence and a promise of successful scholarly engagement.
