The Department of the Classics seeks to appoint a tenure-track professor in Ancient History. Applications are invited from candidates specializing in any aspect of the ancient Mediterranean world from the Bronze Age to Late Antiquity. The appointment is expected to begin on July 1, 2022.
The tenure-track professor will be responsible for teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels and will be expected to participate fully in the activities of the Department of the Classics, the Ancient Studies program, and Harvard’s broader community of scholars of the ancient world.

Basic Qualifications: Doctorate or terminal degree in Ancient History or related discipline required by the time the appointment begins.
Additional Qualifications: An inclusive vision for the study of the ancient world, promise of scholarly excellence, and a strong commitment to teaching are desired.

Three letters of recommendation are required, and the application is considered complete only when at least three letters have been received. At least one letter must come from someone who has not served as the primary advisor for the candidate’s undergraduate, graduate, or postdoctoral projects.

Timetable to Appointment: It is anticipated that two rounds of interviews will be conducted by video-conference October 13–24 and finalists’ campus visits will take place November 1–18.
