Job Overview

The Department of Classics at the University of Cincinnati invites applications for a tenure track position in ancient Greek language and literature at the level of Assistant Professor, to begin August 15, 2022. Minimum qualification is a Ph.D. degree in Classics completed by May 1, 2022. Candidates must demonstrate, through their writing sample or published work, capacity for high-quality scholarly research. They must have the ability to teach ancient Greek and Latin languages at both undergraduate and graduate levels as well as undergraduate courses in classical civilization.

The Department of Classics offers B.A. programs in Classics and Classical Civilization and M.A. and Ph.D. programs in Greek and Latin Language and Literature, Ancient History, Bronze Age Archaeology, and Classical Archaeology. The faculty thrive in an interdisciplinary environment that educates students in philology, ancient history, and archaeology. The department is housed together with the Burnam Classics Library, one of the largest and best collections of resources in Classics in the world, including a collection of Byzantine and Modern Greek resources. Essential Functions

  • Teach ancient Greek and Latin languages at both undergraduate and graduate levels as well as undergraduate courses in classical civilization.
  • Advise graduate and undergraduate students.
  • Write and grade graduate examinations.
  • Conduct research and publish in the field of ancient Greek and Latin.
  • Serve on departmental committees, and serve on dissertation committees.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Prior to effective date of appointment, applicants must hold a Ph.D. in Classics or a related field.
  • Applicants must demonstrate their scholarly research through a writing sample or published work.
