SCS Philadelphia, January 2025

The Committee on Ancient & Modern Performance (CAMP) presents a new play inspired by the myth of Demeter and Persephone, speaking to urgent contemporary concerns about Classics, social justice, and the environment: Conversations at the Return of Spring, a new play by Ellen McLaughlin.

Ellen McLaughlin is an award-winning American playwright whose works frequently engage Greek literature and myth. Her plays include Iphigenia and Other Daughters, The Trojan Women, The Persians, Oedipus, Helen, Penelope, and An Oresteia, and have been produced at venues including The Public Theater (NYC), The Actors’ Gang (LA), Almeida Theater (London), and Shakespeare Theatre Company (DC). Ms. McLaughlin is also an actor, best known for having originated the part of the Angel in Tony Kushner’s Angels in America.
