The Department of Greek and Roman Studies at Vassar College invites applications for the Blegen Post-Doctoral Fellowship beginning August 2025.

Position Description

The Blegen Post-Doctoral Fellowship is intended for a promising, early-career scholar and offers two years of limited teaching responsibility to develop or bring to fruition a major research project. The Fellowship offers a 2-1 teaching load and carries a competitive salary, plus benefits, and includes the use, without cost, of a two-bedroom apartment adjacent to campus. Applicants are required to have their Ph.D. in hand at the time of appointment, and ABD applicants should supply documentation of expected completion date. Teaching responsibilities will include teaching Latin at the intermediate and advanced levels, as well as a seminar on a topic of the applicant’s choice for first-year students, so evidence of successful college-level teaching is preferred. In keeping with our existing curricular investments in a more expansive understanding of classics, we particularly welcome applicants whose scholarship and teaching can engage a primarily non-specialist student body. An ability to offer classes that can be cross-listed with one or more of our multidisciplinary programs (listed at https://www.vassar.edu/academics/departments) is also welcome.
