The Classical Association of Ghana, in collaboration with the Department of Philosophy and Classics, University of Ghana, the Department of Classics and Philosophy, University of Cape Coast, the Faculty of Classics, University of Cambridge, and the Department of Classics, University of Toronto, is pleased to announce the call for papers for its 3rd International Classics Conference in Ghana (ICCG) on the theme: Classics Beyond Borders.
The theme arises from the project of the same name, Classics Beyond Borders, a collaboration originally between Cambridge and Ghana, which has been generously funded by the Cambridge Africa Alborada Foundation and the A. G. Leventis Foundation (https://www.classics.cam.ac.uk/research/projects/classics-beyond-borders). The project seeks to establish collaborative links with universities across the world to reclaim the subject from its colonial legacy and foster more and better intercultural dialogue in the discipline.
For this conference, and thanks to generous funding from the Loeb Classical Library Foundation, we aim to bring together scholars from across Africa who are engaged in the study of Classics, with colleagues around the world to enable such dialogue.
Papers are invited for 30-minute presentations in any area of Classics, including but not limited to:
- Community building
- Decolonization
- Adaptation, translation, and reception
- Neglected voices
- Pedagogy and language teaching
- Classics curriculum
- Inclusive Classics
As part of our aim to expand this collaboration, we hope to provide travel bursaries to participants from within Africa, and we especially encourage early career scholars and PhD students working in African universities to submit abstracts for consideration. Please submit abstracts of no more than 300 words to both mkokyereasante@uesd.edu.gh and sopeprah@ug.edu.gh, putting “ICCG 2024” in the subject line. The deadline for submission of abstracts has been extended to Saturday, June 15, 2024. We aim to send notifications of acceptance by June 30, 2024.
All enquiries should be sent to iccg@ug.edu.gh.
