AMHERST COLLEGE - AMHERST, MA (Two Positions)
POSITION ONE: Applications are invited for a tenure-track appointment at the Assistant Professor level to commence July 1, 2003. The successful candidate must be able to teach with distinction Greek and Latin at all levels, with particular emphasis on Latin language and literature. The ability to teach courses on Roman culture and literature in translation will be a distinct advantage. Candidates should have a strong commitment to undergraduate and interdisciplinary teaching in a liberal arts context and a well-articulated plan for sustained research. The teaching load is two courses per semester. Ph. D. required by time of appointment.

POSITION TWO: Applications are invited for a two-year appointment as a Mellon Postdoctoral Fellow to commence July 1, 2003. This position, which entails half-time teaching (one course per semester) and half-time research, is one of four fellowships in Amherst departments made possible by a grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation to support exceptionally promising young teacher-scholars in developing their teaching and research. The Classics Department seeks candidates to teach courses in Greek and Latin languages and literature, as well as a course in either Greek or Roman literature in translation, history, or archaeology. Candidates should have a strong commitment to undergraduate and interdisciplinary teaching in a liberal arts context and a well-articulated plan for sustained research.
