The Classics and Social Justice affiliated group invites you to submit a brief abstract for our 2024 SCS/AIA panel: Topics in Classics and Social Justice. We seek a wide range of papers that deal with issues relating to Classics and Social Justice broadly defined. Topics might include race/ethnicity, income inequality, class, immigration, gender and sexuality, ability, neurodiversity, etc.

Papers might address, but are not limited to, the following questions:

  • How do we engage with social justice inside and outside of the classroom, at the high school and college levels?
  • How do we engage with these issues in the ancient world?
  • How do we bring our professional expertise into communities and partner with community organizations and members?
  • How do we engage with social justice issues on our campuses and in our communities?

Abstracts are welcome from all SCS/AIA members and will be anonymously selected. Please send abstracts (of up to 350 words) for 20-minute talks to Elizabeth Bobrick (ebobrick@wesleyan.edu) by March 1, 2023.
